Escondido's Oldest Art Association and Operator of the Artists' Gallery

Welcome to the Escondido Art Association

The Escondido Art Association is dedicated to promoting fine arts in our community. Through our gallery on Grand Avenue we provide an outlet for our members and other local artists to display their work. We also host demonstrations by local and nationally known artists at our monthly meetings, providing a place for members to learn new techniques and socialize with fellow artists.

The EAA is active in the community of Escondido: hosting shows benefiting local causes, giving scholarships to local high school students, and even showing member artwork in downtown businesses. Anyone with an interest in the visual arts or the desire to support the EAA is welcome as a member!

Our gallery, The Artists Gallery, on Grand Avenue in Escondido, is open in the evening during the monthly Second Saturday Artwalk. We focus on representational art in all media. Admission is free and we offer a hosted wine bar and hors d'oeuvres. Come see the art and meet the artists!

The quarterly EAA Art Rotations have changed. Per July 1st, only one artist will be allowed to hang multiple pieces at either the US Bank or the Best Western Hotel. To apply for a slot at these locations, please contact Joan Segel.

The process is as follows;
The artist who has been assigned to show their art during the next period, contacts the artist currently showing at that location. They will arrange a meeting so that any equipment needed to hang the show is passed on. The artists may agree to help each other take down the show and hang the next. The duration of a show at the US bank and the Best Western Hotel is 2 months. The duration of a show at the library is one month, starting at the beginning of that month. For more information, please contact Joan Segel at the Artists Gallery, 760-489-0338, or at 760-741-3117.

Rent-an-Easel program

As of August 5th, the Rent-an-Easel program was introduced in the Artists' Gallery. This program allows artists to rent an easel located in the window of the Artists's Gallery. This location is considered highly desirable due to the high visibility from the street which will increase the probability to sell the art on display.

Up to five easels can be rented by one or more artists at any given time. The cost to rent an easel is $40 per month. The art on the easel can be swapped by the renting artist at their discretion. The art placed on the easel DOES NOT participate in the judged gallery show for that month. However, when an artist rents an easel, he/she can also add up to three works in the judged gallery show at a cost of $5 per painting.

For more information about this program, call Joan Segel at the Artists Gallery, 760-489-0338, or at 760-741-3117.

Renee Corwin

About the Artist:

Renee Corwin is an award winning portrait painter. A native New Yorker, Renee attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Influenced by such great artists as John Singer Sargent, Bouguereau and Ingres just to name a few and contempories such as Richard Schmid, David Leffel, Michael Shane Neal, Quang Ho and Michael Steirnagle, Renee paints in a style of realism.

Her professional career started as textile artist where she was a colorist and designer in the garment district in Manhattan for two decades. In her working career she has also worked as a graphic designer. Always the consummate creator, she works with endless dedication to each piece she tackles. Her move to San Diego brought her back to her first joy, painting. As a way to stay spiritually connected to her family, Renee began painting portraits from photos of her family members who were now 3,000 miles away. She enjoyed portrait painting so much that she decided to focus on just that, and a passion was created.

Renee has won numerous awards for her portrait work, at the San Diego County Fair, the Ramona Gallery and the All Members Show of the San Diego Portrait Society. She has been in numerous group shows and a solo show in Rancho Santa Fe. One of her winning pieces also hangs in the permanent collection in the library at Mesa College and at the Bonita Museum. Renee’s works are in private collections in Northern and Southern California, Washington, Colorado, Florida and New York.

Renee is the present president of the San Diego Portrait Society and a member of the California Art Club, The Portrait Society of America and The Ramona Art Guild. She teaches portraiture and painting in Escondido.
